Hip Hop Dance has deep historical and social roots in African American culture, having emerged in Black communities living in New York throughout the 70’s. Hip Hop is a mix of many dance styles and includes elements from Cuban mango and rumba, Brazilian samba, Jazz, salsa, and even some martial arts influences like Kung-Fu. Participating in Hip Hop Dance can help build self-confidence, increase athleticism and foster a spirit of self-empowerment.
Jazz Funk, also called Street Jazz, borrows a lot of movement from other dance styles. From Ballet, Modern, Hip Hop, and Lyrical, Jazz Funk incorporates little bits and pieces of other dance genres and wraps into a funky style that is both fun and expressive. The best way to understand Jazz Funk is to visualize a broader more commercialized form of Hip Hop that freely borrows from many different styles of large dance production. Music videos by Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani and more have all featured jazz funk dance choreography.
Musical Theatre is a jazz-based class filled with Broadway style dancing and music. Classes incorporate the style of dance one would typically see on a Broadway stage. This form of dancing emphasizes learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and facial expressions. It often tells a story, perhaps using mime, costume and scenery, or else it may simply interpret the musical accompaniment, which is often specially composed.
Tap is a form of dance that uses the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion; Focuses on coordinated footwork and rhythm.
Tap dancing can be done to music or be a with no musical accompaniment using the sound of the taps is its own music.
Ballet is the foundation for all styles of dance. Classes focus on strength, precision and grace throughout movement. Ballet classes provides the basis of a well-rounded, technical dancer.
Energetic and fun dance style that evolves from ballet. Uses fast and upbeat music while focusing on turns, leaps, and movement.
Tumbling provides acrobatic mat work and focuses on strength and flexibility. Classes are determined by skill level and not age.
Leaps and Turns is a technique based class, where dancers will work towards perfecting different leaps, jumps and turn combinations. Dancers will also work on proper alignment, strength and flexibility.
In simple terms, Aerial includes moving and making shapes with his/her/their body utilizing an apparatus suspended in the air. Aerial dance is an acrobatic art. Dance Aerial Addiction has hoops, silks, rope, straps and chandelier to train with.
